During the month of September I have visited all of the classrooms, met with each grade level to promote a positive learning environment and have asked students to take the SRE Pride Attendance Challenge. Our attendance goal is 97% daily attendance for the 2015-2016 school year. Children should miss as little school as possible so that they receive their primary instruction along with the rest of their class. Attendance is about more than following the rules. Research consistently shows that regular school attendance is critical to a child’s success.
What can you do to make school a top priority for your children and help promote attendance?
* Let your youngsters know that unless they’re sick, they must go to school.
* Try to schedule routine dentist and doctor appointments after school hours.
* Take family vacations during school breaks.
Working together we can help make school a successful experience for all of our children as we work toward our SRE Pride Attendance Challenge!
We have several other fun events for families this month. Our annual Fall Book Fair will take place the week of October 3- 7, with a Parent Night on Tuesday, October 4th from 5:30 – 8:00pm. Parents can visit the Book Fair to preview or purchase books for their children. We also have our first Reader’s From Birth scheduled at the end of the month on Tuesday, October 25th in the Library for preschoolers from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. Don’t forget to join us at our monthly PTO meeting too on Tuesday, October 11th at 7:00 pm in the large cafeteria! We enjoyed seeing many of our new families at the September PTO meeting and hope to see you this month!! We will have students participating in a Halloween Parade on the 31st and will be sending home information about that later in the month.
Please note that we have an early dismissal as well as a holiday this month. Be sure to mark your calendar for the Columbus Day holiday on Monday, October 10th along with early dismissals on October 31st when we dismiss at 11:20 am. If you did not sign up for a parent/teacher conference at our Curriculum Night, be sure to check with your child’s teacher to arrange a time to meet with them. Our goal is to meet with all of the parents of our students by mid- December.
